Initiatives Technology Infusion Technical Assistance

Technical Assistance

Goal: Strengthen USU's capacity to provide technical assistance to participating preservice programs to support implementation of local technology plans.

Activities:

Identify priority needs for technical assistance in each GCU site to strengthen capacity for successfull implementation of technology plans in order to meet the urban district's technology skill needs.
Provide online and onsite technology planning assistance for GCU preservice programs (based on readiness and interests). Programs will be assessed relative to the Milken Family Foundation's seven dimensions for gauging progress, NCATE technology standards (ISTE NETS), and comparable emerging high quality assessment tools and standards.
Identify shared high priority needs of GCU preservice programs for technology-related technical assistance. The three or four most widely shared high priority needs will form the focus for three to four online faculty development modules that will be designed in Year One, for delivery in year Two. Evolving shared priorities for technical assistance will become the topics for a new set of online faculty development topics to be designed in the second year and delivered in year Three. These online courses will be intended to equip faculty with the skills and knowledge they seek to better prepare their preservice students to use the technology skills sought by GCU's urban districts. Stipends will be offered for both the design and delivery of these online courses. Project staff at MC Squared will provide online professional development on netcourse design for these faculty.
Provide preservice faculty and administrators and GCU district leaders with a steady stream of information - via electronic mailing lists, moderated threaded discussion, online seminars, and the GCU web site. Topics/issues to include promising and proven learning technologies (e.g., PT3 coordinating council-recommended practices, the PT3 digital equity database, NSDC's new national standards for online teacher development, and the U.S. Dept. of Education's technology expert panel's promising and exemplary programs) and on research regarding technologies most likely to improve K12 students' learning results, learning opportunities, and learning climate. We will provide online and face-to-face faculty development about such learning technologies as the WEB project's tools and strategies for online mentoring and assessment, resources for implementing the ISTE National Education Technology Standards, and MC Squared's PLP (web-based personal learning planner and portfolio) for preservice and inservice teachers.
Recruit and support a cadre of technical assistance providers from within the GCU partner institutions.
