Partnerships Local Partnership Teams

As a condition of membership in the Urban Educator Corps, each school/department/college of education forms a P-16 Partnership Team, also known as a Community Team.

Responsibilities of Local Community Teams

Local Community Teams are first and foremost a vehicle for the participating member institutions of the Urban Serving Universities (USU) to better recruit, prepare and retain quality teachers for high need urban centers. As such, the reforms and innovative practices adopted at local sites will be those that serve the most pressing needs of the institution, its K-12 partner(s), and the community. Hopefully, Federal fund-raising on the part of the USU and its Urban Educator Corps will provide resources to assist in various local projects. Further, the Urban Educator Corps is committed to important program development wherein Team members are recruited to assist in these cross-institutional efforts.

Focus their work on the programmatic needs of recruiting, preparing and retaining quality teachers for high need urban sites.
Assist in the development of a support base for their work across the university, including but not limited to the deans of education, arts and sciences, the provost and the president/chancellor of the institution.
Provide technical assistance to local program developers toward the goals of the local urban P-16 partnerships.
Contribute to the design and implementation of federally funded and USU/UEC supported grants and contracts to address programs and projects focused on the recruitment, preparation and retention of quality teachers for high need urban schools.
Serve as "critical friends" for projects implemented across USU sites and conduct research and evaluation to assess the products and outcomes of various funded projects.
Provide examples of best practices for dissemination to other Urban Educator Corps sites across the country.

Composition of the Local Partnership Teams

Local Partnership Teams are primarily programmatic in nature, given the goal of recruiting, preparing and retaining quality teachers for high need urban schools.  As such, each Team should be chaired by that individual who possesses the broadest knowledge and responsibility for implementing teacher education programs at the USU institutional site. That person is referred to herein as a "key teacher educator.

Other members of the team should include representation from the following:

Key Teacher Educator, Team Leader
School District Leader, e.g. Superintendent's designee
Dean of the School/College of Education
Representative of the University, e.g., Provost or Chief Academic Officer designee
Union Leader or Veteran Teacher Leader
Key Technology Leader
