Virtual Curriculum

The purpose of the VC: CBM (Virtual Curriculum: Competency-Based Modules) is to use a database approach to course delivery by developing competency-based modules that support the UEC Teacher Education Rubric indicators.

The major objectives of the VC: CBM is the utilization of instructional technology to increase access to course materials that specifically address core competencies needed for successful instruction in urban public schools where there is a dire need for well-qualified caring teachers. The achievement of this objective should result in improvements in instructional effectiveness and learning outcomes.

As stated in the conceptual framework for GCU-UEC, this effort is intended to answer the question “what is it that all teachers teaching in ‘high need’ urban schools should know and be able to do?” The conceptual framework defines ‘urban’ teacher preparation programs as “programs specifically designed for teachers to be effective in urban schools and school communities often characterized by segregation, economic dislocation, educational inequalities and large numbers of students who are not succeeding academically.”
