Mildred, Mack & Blanche Stewart Teacher Education Endowed Scholarship

 

  Graduate from Jefferson County Public School System, or Spain Park, Leeds, Hewitt-Trussville, or any high school in Bibb, Blount, Cullman, St. Clair, Shelby, Tuscaloosa or Walker Counties;

 

  Priority will be given to entering freshmen followed by transfers from community colleges that attended previously mentioned schools;

 

  3.0 GPA and 22 ACT/1030 SAT;

 

  Full time student;

 

  Preference given to those who show financial need as determined by UAB Office of Student Financial Aid (complete FAFSA);

 

  Applicants must submit 500-word handwritten essay on why they want to become a teacher and why they require financial assistance in order to accomplish this goal;

 

  Applicants must supply 2 letters of recommendation from a high school teacher in a major subject area and their guidance counselor;

 

  Applicants may supply any additional information that will assist the scholarship committee in evaluating their qualifications;

 

  Applicants must apply and be accepted into TEP during junior year and be seeking certification from the State Department of Education;

 

  Annual and renewable;

 

  Funds dispersed in equal amounts over the regular term;

 

  Students are eligible for other forms of financial aid; and

 

  Scholarships are awarded each semester.  Please return the application one month prior to the first day of class.
