Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham
Learn about the 180 different funds managed by CFGB on behalf of residents in our 5-county metro area.  $7.6 million was awarded last year to more than 400 grantees.  CFGB awards grants in 8 different areas, including Education, Health, and Human Services.

Council for International Exchange of Scholars
This privaate organization was founded in 1947 to assist the US government in administering the Fulbright Scholar Program.  Each year, CIES sends 800 US academics and professionals abroad and brings 800 foreign academics and professionals to the US.  You can search the website for eligibility criteria, deadlines, applications, and directories of scholars by discipline, state, name, and host country.  Read "Scholar Stories" to learn more about the Fulbright Program.

ERIC's Clearinghouse on Assessment and Evaluation
This site provides balanced information concerning educational assessment, evaluation and research methodology, as well as resources to encourage the responsible use of educational data.

The Foundation Center
Promoted as the "gateway to philanthropy on the World Wide Web", this site lists most foundations in the United States with such details as size of the organization, types of projects funded, and most recent gifts.  The Southeastern Regional Office is based in Atlanta.

The Internet Public Library
This agency provides library services to Internet users. Activities include: finding, evaluating, selecting, organizing, describing, and creating information resources; and direct assistance to individuals.

Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research
UAB is a member institution in the ICPSR, which maintains and provides access to a vast archive of social science data for research and instruction, and offers training in qunatitative methods to facilitate effective data use.  ICPSR provides user support to assists researchers in identifying relevant data for analysis and in conducting their research projects.  Contact Sterne librarian Diann Weatherly, our UAB representative to the organization.

Online Evaluation Resource Library
OERL is composed of plans, instruments, and reports that have been used to conduct evaluations of projects funded by the Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR) of the National Science Foundation (NSF). This agency offers grantsmanship training and low-cost publications to nonprofit organizations and government agencies. 

The National Academies
The four National Academies include the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, The National Academy of Engineering and the National Research Council.  The Academies were established as private, nonprofit societies of distinguished scholars engaged in research to enhance general welfare.  Review scientific publications, read science news, and learn about awards, special programs and upcoming events.  There are also links to related sites.
