Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, and Fitness Leadership

 

Welcome to the UAB Physical Education Program.  The Physical Education Program includes Undergraduate (Bachelors Degree) concentrations in Physical Education Teacher Certification, Exercise Science (approved for pre-med, pre-physical therapy, and pre-occupational therapy, and Fitness Leadership. Graduate concentrations are available within four graduate programs in the Physical Education department. We offer a Masters Degree in physical education for students who have previously received teacher certification. We offer an Alternative Masters Program for students who have a bachelors degree but not Teacher Certification; Teacher Certification and a Masters Degree are obtained through this program. We offer a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology and an Education Specialist degree in Physical Education.

Physical education programs prepare teachers, fitness leaders, athletic coaches and exercise science professionals to implement developmentally appropriate physical activities that enhance the quality of life for all individuals across their life spans. Our mission is to help you find the best career for you and your interests and to educate you on the best practices in that area.  Physical education programs prepare teachers, fitness leaders, athletic coaches and exercise science professionals to implement developmentally appropriate physical activities that enhance the quality of life for all individuals across their lifespans. Programs are based on current research and the standards and recommendations of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
