Loucrecia Collins is an Associate Professor in the Department of Leadership, Special Education, Foundations, & Technology. She received a Bachelor of Science degree form Mississippi State University in Elementary Education. Later, she was successful in completing the Master’s of Science Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in the teaching of Reading. Her doctorate is in Curriculum and Instruction with a cognate area in Educational Leadership. Dr. Collins was an elementary teacher 18 years and served as a principal for 5 years. As an educator, she experienced diverse school settings in Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, and Alaska. During her tenure as principal of Klatt Elementary School in Anchorage, Alaska, she was recognized as the Principal of the year for implementing curriculum innovations and promoting conflict resolution in her school community.
Dr. Collins is nationally recognized for her work with promoting conflict resolution in schools. She has worked extensively with the Resolving Conflict Creatively Program (R.C.C.P.) and The Operation Respect: Don’t Laugh at Me. Both programs emphasize teaching non-violent strategies to teachers and students to promote positive school environments.
Dr. Collins takes great pride in her work as a college professor. She infuses humor, current events, anecdotes, and reflective processes into her class room instruction. Every attempt is made to connect theory and reality as she prepares future school to leaders. She was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2003.
Her research interests are exploring conflict resolution as a construct to develop effective school communities and developing effective urban leaders. She has presented research on both topics nationally and internationally.
Dr. Collins is actively involved in many professional organizations. She has served on the Conference planning committee for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (www.ascd.org). In addition, she is a member of the editorial board for the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She currently serves as the President of the Alabama Association of Educational Leadership Professors.
Finally, Dr. Collins exudes a positive attitude for life. Plan, prepare, and preserve are the three P’s which guide her work ethics. It is her belief that relationships provide the foundation for a happy life. One of her favorite quotes is “All that you send into the lives of others, comes back to you.”
