Community Health
Education
Completion of the Community Health Education program provides a student
with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. The training received prepares
students to pursue employment in public, volunteer, and private health
agencies and clinics, as well as worksite health promotion. The program also prepares students for graduate work in
various health fields.
Required courses include areas of health education content
and methods, chemistry, biology, sociology, psychology, mathematics,
educational technology, communications and human development.
Opportunities for students to participate in the planning, implementing
and evaluating of health promotion programs are emphasized.
Completion of this degree program also requires a
minor program of study. This is chosen by the student and advisor and
must be approved by the student’s Health Education advisor.
Teacher Certification
grades 6-12
This program is
NCATE approved and meets the
Alabama State Department of Education standards for teacher
certification. Graduates of this program are eligible for employment in
public schools as health teachers in grades 6-12. Course work in this
program requires a combination of the School of Education core
curriculum for teacher education programs and specific course work in
health education. Students complete field experiences in local public
schools. Students completing this program of study are prepared to teach
in
the public schools and are provided with an understanding of the
planning, implementing and evaluating of community and school program
