at UAB Gypsy Abbott, PhD
Dr. Gypsy Abbott is the Principal Investigator for the UAB GK-12 Program and the Principal Investigator for the UAB EdGrid Program. She is also a professor in the UAB School of Education, Department of Human Studies (HS) where she teachers courses in educational psychology. Her interest in computational science began when served as the program evaluator for the Alabama high school computational science program, Alabama Supercomputing Program to Inspire Research in Education (ASPIRE). As a result of her outstanding evaluation reports, the ASPIRE program was identified as 1 of 5 Promising Programs in the Gender Equity Office of Educational Research and Improvement of the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, she has made national and regional presentations describing these gender-related outcomes. Since 1981, her professional interests have been evaluating federally funded programs in mathematics, science, and technology. Two of her evaluation reports in the mathematics and science content areas have been selected as the "Outstanding Evaluation Report of the Year” by the Program Evaluation division of the American Educational Research Association. She is also involved in researching gender issues related to the sciences. She is an active advocate in establishing collaborations between the UAB School of Education and departments in the science, mathematics, engineering, and technology (SMET) disciplines.
