Graduate Teaching Fellows in Modeling and Visualization in K-12 Education

About GK-12

The National Science Foundation's Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education Program  (GK-12) supports teaching fellowships for graduate students in the sciences, mathematics, engineering, and technology (SMET) disciplines.

The GK-12 Graduate Teaching Fellows Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is a collaboration of the UAB School of Education with the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.

This program is a partnership between three campuses: the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Urbana, and the University of Alabama at Huntsville.

GK-12 Graduate Teaching Fellows in SMET disciplines serve as resources for K-12 educators in the implementation of the GK-12 Graduate Teaching Fellows Program in computer-based modeling and scientific visualization.

Leveraging EdGrid, a PT3 Program, the GK-12 Graduate Teaching Fellows Program:

  • Prepares graduate students and advanced undergraduate students in the sciences, mathematics, engineering, and technology disciplines for participation and collaboration in K-12 schools.
  • Provides fellows who assist K-12 teachers and their students in the content areas of science, mathematics, engineering, and technology.
  • Partners with school districts for placement of GK-12 Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 schools.
