Canned Food Drive -
A campus-wide canned food drive,
coordinated by the UAB Student Alumni Society.
Students, faculty and
staff are encouraged to support this campus service
project. The goal of the drive is to collect 4,000 items
by Sept. 24 to benefit the non-profit organization
Magic City Harvest.
Donations may be
dropped off in the green collection boxes located across
campus. For more information, contact the UAB Alumni
Affairs Office at 934-3555 or the UAB Office of Student
Involvement at 934-8020.
The
35th Annual Meeting of Research on Women in Education
- Keynote Speaker is Dr. Shirley Malcom, Director of
Education and Human Resources for American Association
for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Malcom
oversees AAAS programs in science education, activities
for underrepresented groups. She is the U.N. Co-chair
for Women in Developed Countries and an international
expert of equity and diversity. Conference dates:
October 8-10, 2009.
Annual Conference of the Eastern Educational
Research Association - The
Eastern Educational Research Association is a
regional organization for educational
professionals interested in disseminating
educational research for the overall purpose of
improving education for all. Call for
presentation proposals due on October 30, 2009.
Conference held February 10-13, 2010.
Learning
Excellence Through Tennis - Volunteers needed for local nonprofit in the
areas of competition support as well as mentor areas such as nutrition, self
respect, and contact resolution. No tennis experience necessary.
Birmingham READS AmeriCorps - In exchange for a year
of service, AmeriCorps members earn a living allowance
and an education award that can be used to pay back
student loans or finance college, graduate school, or
vocational training.
Volunteers are needed for local Junior Achievement
projects.
