Personal Mission
My personal mission is to provide quality education and mentoring to ALL students. I believe that diversity in both students and faculty bring a richer learning environment for all students. In my courses and mentoring of students, I value working with students from diverse populations and under-represented groups. Pictures of some of my recent international students reflect my perspective. I find that in working with graduate students, I learn as much as they do. International students present a special challenge and a special reward.
In connection with my mission statement, I also believe that well developed skills in information technology are a prerequisite for citizens in today’s global society. I am dedicated to assisting students, with particular emphasis on gender and ethnicity, become proficient in use of these technologies as one way to improve their ability to be productive citizens and workers.
My specific areas of interest are: 1) innovative educational practices in the SMET disciplines that encourage ALL students at all levels of the educational continuum to be participants in these areas and 2) "best practices" related to gender equity, specifically in SMET disciplines.
