Elementary Education (ELE)  Graduate Program

Programs in Elementary Education focus on the intellectual, psychological, and social development of children in grades K-6, curriculum, and the development of preservice and inservice educators. UAB offers a nontraditional fifth-year M.A.Ed. degree (with Class A certification), a traditional M.A.Ed, degree (with A certification), and an Ed.S. degree (with AA certification).

Alternative Master's Degree Checklist (M.A.Ed.)- To be eligible for the nontraditional fifth-year program, students must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a GPA of at least 2.75 (4.0-point scale). Undergraduate transcripts are evaluated by personnel in the School of Education Student Services Office (205-934-7530) to determine program eligibility. Students must also complete an application with Graduate Admissions (205-934-8232). The application includes official transcripts from all prior postsecondary institutions, three recommendation forms, and a GRE or MAT score.

Masters Class A Degree Checklist (M.A.Ed.) - The traditional master's program is designed for students who already have B-level early childhood certification. Application should be made with Graduate Admissions as described above. For information about specific courses or other program requirements contact the Student Services Office at 205-934-7530.

Masters Class AA Degree Checklist (M.A.Ed.) - The Ed.S. program is for students who already have a master's degree and Class A certification in Elementary Education. Application should be made with Graduate Admissions as described above. For information about specific courses or other program requirements contact the Student Services Office at 205-934-7530.

Ed.S. Degree Checklist - The Ed.S. program is for students who already have a master's degree and Class A certification in elementary education. Students should make application with Graduate Admissions. The application includes official transcripts from all prior postsecondary institutions, two recommendation forms, and a GRE or MAT score. Students who received their master's degree from UAB and have a GRE or MAT score on file are not required to retake the exam.
