Free Workshop on Cultural Etiquette: Focus on India (Parts 1 and 2) for UAB Employees!
Do you work with professionals from India in your department? Training and Development is offering a FREE workshop! Part 1 is being offered on Friday, July 17 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.
Are you planning to visit India for business in the future? Are you planning to host some special visitors from India? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then this workshop is designed for you. As a result of the workshop, you will:

Acquire a model for understanding the influence of culture on individuals and societies

Gain strategies for accessing cultural information needed for cross-cultural situations abroad or at home

Access information on Indian cultural values which form the basis for behavioral norms in India

Receive hand-outs on cultural tips for various interactions such as greetings, eating, communicating, and working with Indians

Receive resources for further study on Indian culture

Board of Trustees approves the School of Education’s English Language and Culture Institute (ELCI) at the February 6 meeting.
We are now officially an “Institute” and this will allow us to expand programming as we continue to serve the needs of English language learners at UAB and in the greater Birmingham community.
NEW OFFICE SPACE for the English Language and Culture Institute
The ELCI has moved into its new office space in room 126 of the School of Education! The new offices will allow for expanded programming and will promote communication and collaboration among ELCI’s 10+ staff. In addition, renovation is underway for a new classroom located inside the 126 space. An open house is planned for April 1 from 1:00- 3:00 pm and all SOE employees are invited to come by and look around. There will be refreshments.
