The redesigned K12 Master’s Degree program is now
called Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership to reflect
the most important role that school administrators now play –
that of the instructional leader of a school. The redesigned
curriculum reflects alignment to the new Alabama State Standards
for School Leadership, adopted in 2006. The program leads to
Class “A” Administrative Certification in Alabama.
Local and area school district personnel have had
an integral part in the redesign process, insuring that the new
Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership is current in
curriculum content, consistent with researched best practices,
relevant in field experiences, and rigorous in its expectations
of future school leaders.
The Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership
consists of six courses with course embedded field experiences
and a 10-day residency experience. Students proceed
through the courses in sequence, finishing in 4 semesters.
Cohorts will be available in the Partner
Districts of Hoover City/St. Clair County. A cohort on the campus of UAB will also be
available.
