Department of Curriculum & Instruction
The Department of
Curriculum and Instruction offers
numerous undergraduate programs
which lead to a B.S. degree in
education and/or Alabama "Class B"
professional certificate in the
student's program area. The
Department of Curriculum and
Instruction offers programs of study
which lead to a Master of Arts in
Education degree and to an Education
Specialist degree. These programs
are designed so that the students
may receive the Alabama "Class A"
and "Class AA" certificates in
certain fields. Students may also
earn a Doctor of Philosophy degree
in early childhood education.

Students should consult with a program advisor early in their studies to be certain they will meet the School of Education requirements and the state of Alabama certification requirements. Please call the Office of Student Services at (205) 934-7530 for advising information.
Students preparing to teach are expected to participate in a series of planned assignments in community and/or school settings both before admission to and during their Teacher Education Program (TEP). These opportunities to work with children and youth are designed to enhance the students' professional development and to supplement their campus coursework.
