Counselor Education Student Organizations

Counseling students are encouraged to advance their professional development beyond their academic preparation by joining and participating in professional counseling organizations, many of which are listed below.

Chi Sigma Iota - Zeta Chapter
"Our mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling."
 
American Counseling Association
"The mission of the American Counseling Association is to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and diversity."
 
Alabama Counseling Association
"To enhance human development throughout the life span and to promote public confidence and trust in the counseling profession."
 
American Association of Christian Counselors
"AACC is committed to assisting Christian counselors and the entire ‘community of care,’ licensed professionals, pastors, and caring church members with little or no formal training. It is our intention to equip clinical, pastoral, and lay care-givers with Biblical truth and psycho-social insights that ministers to hurting persons and helps them move to personal wholeness, interpersonal competence, mental stability, and spiritual maturity. "
 
Student Rehabilitation Association (SRA)
The Mission of the UAB Student Rehabilitation Association is to promote student identity with the rehabilitation profession by facilitating interaction around information and issues in the field.
