Certification and Licensure

Graduates of the Rehabilitation Counseling Concentration are qualified to pursue the credentials of both Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).  CRC is a national certification recognized throughout the United States and Canada.  LPC is licensure that qualifies one to participate in private practice within the state of Alabama.

The Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) is a non-profit, independent, credentialing body which certifies Rehabilitation Counselors. Graduates of the Rehabilitation Counseling Program at UAB are qualified to sit for the national exam to become a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). Rehabilitation Counselors who have obtained the CRC are qualified for employment in all state vocational rehabilitation counseling agencies and most private rehabilitation agencies throughout the U.S. In many states, those who possess the CRC are eligible for licensure as professional counselors. Details for obtaining CRC can be found at the website of the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification: http://www.crccertification.com/

The
Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling oversees the licensure of counselors in Alabama. Students graduating from the UAB Counselor Education Program qualify to apply for licensure in the State of Alabama. Details regarding licensing procedures can be found at the website of the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling: http://www.abec.state.al.us/
