OUTCOME 4: Career Development

 

OUTCOME C4: The UAB counselor candidate understands and can facilitate the application of principles of career development and life planning.
 

C4.K Knowledge and Understanding: The Counselor-in-training knows and understands career development theories and decision-making models; vocational, educational, occupational and labor market information, resources, and systems; program planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation; interrelationships among and between work, family, and other life roles and factors including diversity and gender; career and educational planning, placement, follow-up, and evaluation; appropriate assessment instruments and techniques; technology-based career development applications including computer-assisted guidance and information systems, and world-wide web sites; career counseling processes, techniques, and resources, including those applicable to specific populations; and ethical and legal considerations.

Does not demonstrate an understanding of testing and assessment. Fails to grasp an adequate knowledge or understanding of the criteria stated for this domain.

Emerging Initial Performance

 Demonstrates limited knowledge and understanding of testing and assessment. Displays some knowledge and evidences some understanding of the criteria stated for this domain.

[3]
Proficient Initial Performance

Demonstrates substantial knowledge and understanding of principles and practices of Career Development. Displays a strong knowledge base and evidences a good understanding for Career Development theories, practices, and processes.

[4]
Emerging Advanced Performance

Demonstrates exemplary knowledge and understanding of principles and practices of Career Development. Displays a comprehensive and sound knowledge base and evidences a clarity and breath of understanding for Career Development theories, practices, and processes.

 

OUTCOME C4: The UAB counselor candidate understands and can facilitate the application of principles of career development and life planning.

C4.P Performance and Skills: Applies knowledge and understanding by demonstrating their ability to: discern their theoretical orientation to career development; review, select, and administer appropriate assessment instruments; interpret assessment data and provide meaningful feedback to clients; locate and facilitate the use of career information; utilize technology as a tool for enhancing the career development process; and organize and implement a career plan based on the needs and interest of an individual client.

Unacceptable

 Lacks ability and judgment in selecting, administrating, or interpreting career inventories. Exhibits a limited awareness of the diverse backgrounds, interest, and needs of clients. Is incapable of developing an appropriate career development plan.

[2]
Emerging Initial Performance

 Exhibits limited competence and judgment in the selection, administration, and interpretation of appropriate career inventories. Is aware of the diverse backgrounds, interest, and needs of clients. Is capable of developing an appropriate career development plan.

[3]
Proficient Initial Performance

Often exhibits competence and good judgment in the selection, administration, and interpretation of appropriate career inventories. Is aware of and alert to the diverse backgrounds, interest, and needs of clients. Is capable of developing a meaningful and appropriate career development plan.

[4]
Emerging Advanced Performance

Consistently exhibits competence and good judgment in the selection, administration, and interpretation of appropriate career inventories. Is sensitive and responsive to the diverse backgrounds, interest, and needs of clients. Is capable of developing a meaningful, appropriate, and comprehensive career development plan.
