Area I: Pre-Candidacy Requirements (28 semester hours):
EPR 607 Microcomputer Applications to Statistical
Analysis (must be taken concurrently with EPR 608) -1 hour

ECG 612 Professional Orientation
ECG 621 Theories of Individual Counseling
ECG 624 Assessment: Individual and Group (Prerequisites
ECG 607 & ECG 608)
ECG 626 Group Counseling: Process & Procedures (Prerequisites:
ECG 621 & ECG 638)
ECG 628 Social and Cultural Diversity
ECG 630 Career Development: Vocational and Life Planning
ECG 638 Practicum I: Clinical Skills and
Techniques (Prerequisite: ECG 621)
* Comprehensive exams must be taken upon completion of courses in
Area I. Students may, at their own risk, choose to take the
comprehensive examination during a semester in which they are
concurrently enrolled in the final core courses. However, faculty do not
endorse this practice and encourage students to complete all core
courses prior to taking the comprehensives.
AREA II: Pre-Candidacy Requirements (12 semester hours):
ECG 650 Assessment and Diagnosis of Mental Disorders (Required)
ECG 600 Introduction to Community Counseling
(Required)
Electives- 6 semester hours - Graduate level courses related to
the student’s specialty area and/or interest, and approved by advisor.
Choices of electives impact certain clinical placement options.
*Admission to Candidacy Following Completion of Areas I & II
Upon completion of areas I & II students admitted to candidacy must
1) Pass the qualifying examination (comprehensive exam).
2) Obtain the recommendation of the faculty.
Area III: Post-Candidacy Requirements: (9 semester hours):
ECG 695 Practicum II: Supervised Field Experience (3 semester hours)
(Prerequisites: Areas I & II ; successful
completion of comprehensive examination; admission to candidacy).
Practicum requirments: 100 hours; 40 direct contact hours
ECG 697 Counseling Internship (6 hours semester hours) *
(Prerequisite: ECG 695)
Internship requirements: 600 hours; 240 direct contact hours
*Internship must be done over 2 semesters.
