Workshops  -  Ages 10 - 12
WE INVITE YOU to participate in one or more of our Workshops. Various units of study have been designed to enrich the academic social and emotional growth of the student. Please note the dates and fees of each workshop. All will be held at Rocky Ridge Elementary School from 8 – 12.  Note: All workshops are subject to enrollment.

June Workshops

• Writing Workshop – June 1 - 5, $125
Focus on refinement and mechanics of writing through poetry, story writing, research writing, and more.

• Book Club – June 1 - 5, $125 
Join our book club related to interesting books. Students will engage in self – selected readings and collaborative reading during this workshop.  Dialogue and reflective journals will be used to build comprehension strategies.

• Math Enrichment – June 8 - 12, $125
Focus on problem solving and critical thinking.

• Making Movies with the Computer – June 8 - 12, $150
Students will use Windows Movie Maker - part of the XP operating system, to make movies that will consist of video, pictures, and text. Students will learn how to shoot video, take pictures, and import them into the Movie Maker Program. Student will also gain exposure to other video and image editing software. (Limited enrollment.)

Explore native plants and animals found in our community.

• Math Enrichment – June 22 - 26, $125
Focus on problem solving and critical thinking.

July Workshops

• Chess – July 6 - 10, $100
Learn or refine the strategic game of chess.

• Ultimate Exploration – July 6 - 10, $125
You'll be blown away by what you learn as we explore the properties of flight.  Learn about air pressure, fly planes and gliders, launch rockets.  You'll have a blast discovering if you have the Wright stuff.

Occasionally, children in the UAB Children's Creative Learning Center may be audio taped, photographed, or videotaped for educational purposes. If you do not want your child used in these media formats, please send your request in writing at the beginning of the summer session in which your child will attend.

There will be a snack time each day.  Please send an appropriate snack with your child each day.
