Next Steps
Review all of the information given on this site, especially the Frequently Asked Questions.
Consider the technology requirements needed for the on-line portions of the work:
-
You must have access to a computer and the Internet several times weekly when you are enrolled in education classes (including the summer). Access via a work computer is fine, but many students in prior courses have found that home access makes coursework much more enjoyable (think of doing your coursework in your PJ’s at midnight or 6:00 a.m.
-
Consider high-speed Internet access. Past students have found dial-up frustratingly slow when trying to complete coursework.
-
If you decide to purchase a computer for coursework, consider a laptop with a wireless card so that you can bring it to class and tap into UAB’s free wireless Internet. We encourage you NOT to invest in a computer purchase before beginning the program, however.
Once you decide that you are going to pursue admission to the cohort, please complete the following steps:
-
Send an e-mail to Dr. Tommy Smith at tsmith@uab.edu. Briefly, introduce yourself, including what and where you teach and why you are interested in the Blended Masters program. Ask him which type of application (see the next two steps) you need to submit.
-
Review the steps required for gaining full admission to the graduate school. You will need to achieve full admission during your first semester of course work in order to be able to continue as a member of the cohort. Note especially that you have to have an adequate score on either the GRE or the MAT and three professional recommendations.
-
If Dr. Smith directs you, because the semester is too close, begin immediately the process of applying as a non-degree seeking student.
