Frequently Asked Questions, Blended Masters Program

What certification areas are included in the Blended Masters?

This program focuses only on the certifications granted by secondary education. These certifications are art, biology, chemistry, English/Language arts, history, French, mathematics, music, physics, Spanish, and social science.

How much of each course will be on-line?

At least 50% of the education courses in the program will be taught via on-line instruction. (An exception to this may be methods courses in art, French, music, and Spanish, which may be taught in a traditional, face-to-face fashion.) Content courses, such as biology or history courses, will NOT be delivered in a blended format.

I’m currently in the secondary masters program. Can I be in the cohort?

Technically, no. If you still have education courses left to take in your program, you may be able to take some of them with the cohort in a Blended format. The cohort will be following a specified sequence of courses. You won’t want to follow that sequence because you will have already taken some of the courses.

I’m currently in UAB’s Alternative Masters  Program. Can I switch into the Blended Cohort so that I can finish my program on-line?

No. The Alternative Masters Program grants initial (first) certification; the Blended Masters focuses on advanced certification.

I don’t live in Alabama, but I found your Blended Masters on-line. Can I apply?

No. You won’t want to due to the travel involved. This is not a fully on-line program. Attending the face-to-face sessions is a requirement of each course.
