School of Education Dean's Scholars

The Coca-Cola Foundation has funded a special scholarship program open to minority students pursuing teacher education. These awards may be used for tuition, fees, and books. In addition to the scholarship, recipients will include monthly seminar meetings, attendance at special occasions on campus, and opportunities to represent the School of Education at functions and meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Full-time undergraduate enrollment in the School of Education

  • Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program (TEP), or ability to meet TEP requirements and junior standing by Fall, 2000
  • Terms:

  • There will be ten awards, renewable for one year, each valued at $2,500 per year

  • Students must continue their enrollment in the Teacher Education Program to remain eligible

  • Funds will be credited directly to the student's UAB account
  • Selection Process:

  • Application deadline for Fall, 2000 is June 1, 2000

  • Written applications to the Dean must include:
  • a letter of application;

  • a resume

  • transcripts of all college work

  • an essay of no more than 500 words on the topic, A Teacher Who Influenced my Life
  • The Dean, assistant deans, and department chairs will select up to fifteen semi-finalists

  • A formal interview will be conducted by the UAB Student Concerns Committee, who will make recommendations to the Dean

  • Semi-finalists not awarded scholarships will be alternates.
